JOHANNESBURG – TECNO and Itel are marking Africa Month (May), with a pledge to empower the continent through innovation and connectivity.
Africa Day is recognised on the 25th.
“With a strong presence and growing popularity across the continent, Tecno and Itel continue to play a vital role in connecting communities, empowering individuals, and driving digital inclusion,” the Chinese brands stated.
Africa Month commemorates the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (now the African Union) on May 25 1963.
In the continent, May is seen as a time to reflect on the progress made and the shared vision of unity, growth and development.
“Tecno and Itel have been instrumental in supporting this vision by providing innovative, affordable, and high-quality technology solutions tailored to the needs and wants of African fans of the brands.”
A spokesperson said their devices were widely recognised for their user-friendly features, durability, long battery life and affordability, the qualities that had earned them a loyal customer base in countries such as Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Ethiopia and beyond.
“Their smartphones and feature phones are designed with deep local insight, ensuring that they cater to the everyday needs of millions of users across urban and rural areas.”
Through digital literacy initiatives, creative partnerships and localised innovations, the brands believe they have become trusted allies in Africa’s digital transformation journey.
Transsion Holdings, a Chinese company, owns both brands.
